There is a Time

Biere de Garde translates as “beer for keeping.” This less common blonde variant and has a bit more hop presence than its amber and brown siblings and despite the name is lovely fresh.

I especially love this song as played by the Dillards who cameoed regularly on the Andy Griffith show as the Darlings.

  • 8 lbs - Pilsner 2 srm
  • 3 lbs - Munich 9 srm
  • 1 lbs - Vienna 3.5 srm
  • 8 oz - Victory 25 srm
  • 1 lb - Belgian Candi Syrup 5 srm - 60 min boil

Boil

  • 1oz - Hallertau Blanc 8.8% AA - 30min
  • 1oz - Hallertau Blanc 8.8% AA - 15min
  • 1oz - Fuggle 5.6% AA - 15min
  • 1 - Whirlfloc - 15min

Yeast

  • 1 package Imperial Napoleon (#B64)

Brew Steps

Standard 60 minute mash at 152, fly sparge at 168 and boil for 60 minutes.

Single stage fermentation at 68 - 70 for 14 days, rack to keg and carbonate at 12.5 PSI

I also bottled several of these with corks and cages in the thicker Belgian style bottles to make some nice treats for family at the holidays.
